Cyprus Tourism Industry Rakes in €2B in 2015

The tourist industry managed to accumulate revenue amounting to almost €2 billion during the period January-October 2015, according to the Statistical Service of Cyprus.

According to data released by the Service, the industry’s revenue during the period was estimated at €1,977,6 million, a 3.3% increase on 2014’s figures. In October alone, revenue peaked at €225 million, up 3.6% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year. A total of 269,363 persons visited the island during the month, up compared to 251,453 in October 2014.

However, the average length of stay decreased to 9.7 days, down from 10.5 days in October 2014. At the same time, expenditure per person fell to €835 compared to € 863 in October 2014, in contrast to expenditure per day that increased to €86 from €82 in October 2014.

Meanwhile, September 2015 recorded the largest annual percentage increase as revenues climbed by 17.4% to €321.1 million The United Kingdom remains the leading country in incoming tourism to Cyprus, with 114,555 tourists in October 2015, recording an increase of 13.28% on an annual basis. This is followed by Russia, with 35,131 tourists and a 28.34% decrease compared to October 2014. Germany is next in line, with 16,897 tourists, recording an increase of 30.2% compared to last October.
